History
The ancient workshop “Mobílias Tradicionais Alentejanas”, now Mobitral, has been in Ferreira do Alentejo for more than sixty-five years and it was the property of the firm Agostinho & José Agostinho , Hrds, Lda until 1988. By then the workshop faced a period of financial troubles which threatened its survival. It is when the Municipality decided to take part in order to ensure the jobs (about a dozen workers) but mostly to “Ensure the genuine nature of the traditional furniture, a true ex-libris of the region”, in Diário do Alentejo, November 1988.Fourteen years later Mobitral was created, following new legislation from 1998.In November 2002 13% of the company was bought into by private investors.Mobitral is now in a new building with new equipment which allows it to compete with its congeners.
